Like an Apple Inc. commercial, hundreds of employees crammed stairwells and against railings at the technology company’s North Austin office on Thursday to hear first-hand the news the company announced in the middle of the night.
The doors of the first buildings are expected to open within 36 months at the $1 billion campus planned by the iPhone maker.
At a press conference, executives provided updates on the timeline and some of the details of the major office project. Austin is already home to the largest Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) office outside Cupertino, Calif. This expansion will significantly increase the importance of the Texas capital to the global operations of the second most-valuable company in the world, with a market capitalization of $809.6 billion on Thursday afternoon.
